Our story

Hviids is and always has been the meeting place for a wide variety of locals of all ages and walks of life, although it has entertained many artists and intellectuals, who served as its regular visitors. Up close, it has been witness to the city’s major fires in 1728 and 1795, it has witnessed The English wars in 1801, the Schleswig wars, the First World War and five years long occupation. 

Joyful and sad events have been discussed in its cramped and dark rooms, and now that it as the city’s oldest wine bar soon celebrates its 300th anniversary, its a joy to refresh some of the memorable events that have taken place in its distinctive environment, and acknowledge the families who created it.
